Gillian Olivia Blythe Hamel is a writer, editor, and book designer based in Oakland, California.

Gillian's first book of poetry, occident, was released in 2017 by Called Back Books. Their poems have appeared in Public Pool, The ElephantsVOLT, jubilat, Dusie, and The Offending Adam, and were featured in the Aesthetic Blitz exhibition from the Asian American Women Artists Association. Critical work has appeared in MARY, theTHE, and OmniVerse.

As a senior poetry editor of Omnidawn Publishing and co-publisher of speCt! books, Gillian has spent the last five years working with dozens of authors at various stages of their careers to get their works into print, from providing editorial mentorship over the conception of the work to designing and laying out the final book object. As editor of OmniVerse from 2013 - 2019, they curated the work of over 350 writers and artists.

Gillian graduated from the University of California Berkeley in 2008 and received their MFA in Creative Writing from Saint Mary's College of California in 2011. They were born in Sacramento and grew up in Sonoma County and the San Francisco Bay Area.
